I was first introduced to upholstering in Chicago in 1972. A friend hired

me on as an apprentice in a company doing residential and commercial 

upholstery jobs.

The apprentice stage started with stripping and cutting fabric off chairs and 

after many months I advanced into the reupholstering phase of my training. It was when that company started to work on a contract for the Prudential building that I got my first experience working on a large scale reupholstering job. It took a little more than a year to complete and it set the stage for the kind of work I would do in the future.

 

One of my most inspirational moments came early in my reupholstering experience. I was tasked with working on a project for a VIP designer at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. One day while I was working on some chairs and an ottoman, the foreman said the designer was in the building and wanted to look at my work in progress. Little did I know that the designer was Jackie O, our former First Lady. She looked over my work and threw her hands up in the air and said "It's just beautiful! I love the way you've matched the flowers up perfectly!" The fabric was a chintz floral cotton imported from France so naturally she wanted to make sure that the job was done right. She shook my hand and gave the foreman instructions on where to deliver the furniture. That moment was really a pivotal moment for me and set the stage for my continued interest in honing my skills and craft.

From the time I reupholstered my first sofa for my parents (much to their delight and my personal sense of pride and satisfaction) to the opening of CBL Seating in Las Vegas in 2005, I have maintained  a commitment to quality and integrity in my work. Over the last 30 years, I have been fortunate to work with a great number of customers, including a few celebrities, who have appreciated the integrity and craftsmanship I bring to each of my jobs.
